A Chinese bulb-mouth brown glazed vase, Tang

A Chinese, bulb-mouthed, brown glazed vase from the Tang dynasty. The coarse stoneware body of this small vase was initially covered by a white slip, which terminated some way above its flat foot. The white slip was then covered by an attractive brown-teadust coloured glaze. Vases of this type have been attributed to the Xing kiln, Hebei, during the early Tang dynasty; see photo. A rare item.
Dimensions; 9 cm tall.
Condition; some small chips and abrasions to the foot. Age related wear.
Provenance; From the collection of a German scholar, assembled between 1961 and 1966.
